Our F1 Buckfast Queens
Our Buckfast queens are selected for desirable colony characteristics, including:
Gentle temperament
Strong spring build-up
Good brood production
Excellent productivity
Good colony management characteristics
Low tendency to swarm
Strong and healthy colonies
Queen performance can naturally vary between individual colonies and seasons.
🛡️
Colony Health & Varroa Management
The health of our bees is extremely important to us.
Our nucleus colonies are managed throughout the season and treated for Varroa destructor using appropriate authorised veterinary medicines where required.
Colonies are supplied subject to our normal health and management checks at the time of collection.
❄️
Why Choose an Overwintered Nucleus?
An overwintered nucleus gives you several important advantages:
Earlier Start
Begin the season with an established colony rather than starting from a small spring nucleus.
Strong Spring Development
Overwintered colonies can build rapidly as temperatures and forage conditions improve.
Potential for an Earlier Honey Crop
A stronger colony going into spring may give you a better opportunity to take advantage of early nectar flows.
Winter-Proven Colony
The colony has already successfully passed through the winter, providing an established starting point for the new season.
